Joy 秀 Song

Joy Song is a film director and photographer based in Berlin and Singapore. Her background comes from script writing and development in LA, having trained at HBO, FilmNation (whose works include Oscar-nominated Arrival, Under the Skin), and Sierra Affinity (Oscar-winning Spotlight).

Song's works are marked with a surreal, dream-like appeal that combines striking imagery with evocative, stylised sound. As a director, she exhibits an otherworldly playfulness within the medium, and offers a unique storytelling style that explores and experiments with visual ideas to make for an inventively imaginative experience.

Her photography has been published on various outlets including Flaunt Magazine, ELLE, and Monocle, while her films have garnered awards in circuits such as the International New York Film Festival, London Fashion Film Festival and Bafta-qualifying Aesthetica Festival. To date, Song holds the record for being the first female director to have won the prestigious DWA Prize from the German Commercial Film Academy.
